The nationwide House of Blues chain got its start in the Boston area in 1992, when founder Isaac Tigrett opened the first outpost in an old Harvard Square house. In 2003, after expanding the House of Blues to a concept of rock clubs all over the United States, the Cambridge outpost closed. Six years later, House of Blues Boston opened on Lansdowne Street in the former site of the Avalon and Axis nightclubs.
